BMIE - Director's List Ceremony and Interviews

Director's List ceremony which is held in TCC last friday, is over.

For some clueless peepz., you may be wondering..."what is director's list??"

Director's List ceremony is held annually for freshmen and juniors who manage to get into the top 10% of their own cohort. The awards are presented to students who have excellent results and are among the top 10%. There are also two new additional awards will be given out each year. These are: the "Competition Awards" and the "Most Improved Student Award."

Catching up with two of our DL freshmen, Jun Hao and Nina...

Interview with Jun Hao

Being in the director's list, how do you feel about it?
Hmmm... I feel happy. My parents are quite proud of me.

When you are in year 1, do you find the subjects tough?
Actually, they are quite manageable. Except my cds, which is Japanese.

What will you do about it to improve your Japanese?
I read more. This is because, language is not easy to understand.

How do you spend your time? Do you study everyday?
Usually, I will study like 1 to 2 weeks before tests. So I don't study everyday.

Now, being in junior year, can you give any advice to our BIE freshmen?

My advice is to study constantly. When there is a quiz, go through the subject so that when it comes to main exam, you can just revise instead of studying all over again.

Listen to the lectures and take note of the key points. That is important for your revision.

Thank you for your time!
No problem!

Interview with Nina

How do you feel, being in the director's list?
I feel normal. It is only something to motivate me. But my parents are very proud of me.

Being a freshman last year, you been active in camps, trainings...how do you manage your time?Or is it you study in your sleep?
(Chuckles) No lah..where got.. I usually study when I free.

Right now, you are the vice-president of Bio-ENGenes as well as one of the main committee in TPIS. Do you find it tough to balance your ccas together with your studies?

Quite tough actually. But you must know how to manage your time.
When there is a time for you to play, you play. When there is a time for you to study, you must really sit down and do your work.

But sometimes, there isn't a mood to study. So how you get the motivation to study?
Thinking about my parents get me motivated. They work hard to send me here to study and I do not want to disappoint them by giving them my bad results. The only way I can pay back is to work hard and do well.

Now, being in junior year, can you give any advice to our BIE freshmen?

Try to participate in CCAs. Year 1 is the time for you to develop your communications skills, widen your social circle as well as develop some interests.By joining CCAs, you can make friends from other schools beside Engineering school. But at the same time, manage your time well too.

Any study tips?
Exam is not the time for you to study from scratch. Hence, when you have the quiz or test, study hard for that. So that it will be easier for your revision when main exam is around the corner.

Thank you, Nina, for your time!
You are welcome!

- This writer went back home and starts taking out her books to study -

BECAUSE EXAMS IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!!!
